The RPG Catch the Snitch is an advanced Harry Potter-based RPG; it involves Hogwarts, but none of the main characters from the books. They're all long gone by now-- and none of their relatives or offspring will be running around either. All characters are completely original. The story line is set in present time; 2006 and the month and day will be the equivalent to that in real life.
The Story In the year 1997, distraught parents pulled their children out of Hogwarts, terrified for their lives. They no longer trusted the school to be a safe haven, especially after the death of Dumbledore in the previous year. The teachers who managed to survive for that long ran for cover, preferring to live a quiet life. Without enough students or willing teachers, Hogwarts closed its doors.
Finally, Lord Voldemort was slain in what was christened as the 'Final Battle between good and evil'. Although it was an historic event, people have done their best to put the horrible events of that massacre behind them in the past near-decade. Though most of the main characters were killed in the final battle-- Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, and Hermione Granger to name a few-- the Wizarding community has already all but forgotten that they ever existed. After all, who wants to be reminded of the reign of terror that had struck fear into the hearts of even the bravest of wizards?
Now that the students were left without a school, there was a great concern amongst parents: where would their children learn magic? Most could not afford sending their children to other schools; not only was it expensive, but there were cultural clashes and language barriers to consider as well. Many took the matter into their own hands, attempting to teach their children themselves, but it came to no prevail. These people had no choice -- they had to take it up with the Ministry.
Following months of dispute among the Wizarding community, Hogwarts reopened once again in the summer of 1999; just in time for the start of term in September…with the addition of a new rule: Aurors were to be hired to permanently guard the school and grounds to ensure the safety of the students. It's unlikely that anything will happen -- but, unfortunately, it is the law. Aurors follow their orders dutifully upholding their strict protection of the school. Tension between Aurors and teachers seem to be growing, silently bubbling beneath the surface.
It's hopeful that in time, Hogwarts will return to normal, where students are allowed to roam freely… but as for now, this is the best the Ministry of Magic can offer.
